Brief_DescriptionThe Guardian was the only major newspaper that opposed the political aims of the British Government in the Boer War of 1899-1902, and through the diary accounts of journalist Emily Hobhouse the newspaper exposed the deadly conditions imposed on the Boers who were evicted from their land and placed in concentration camps. This newspaper page turner was presented by Boer prisoners of war to the Guardian editor CP Scott. Scott believed that opposing the Boer war was "the best theing the Guardian has done in my time".
